Adventure & Tourism Guide to the Chattahoochee River Tailwater.

Discover the Best River Adventure in North Georgia

My name is Nick Adams and I’ve been fishing, paddling and exploring the Chattahoochee Tailwater for 40+ years. As an Atlanta Native, I’ve spent my entire life on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. The Chattahoochee River tailwater below Buford Dam is one of the Southeast’s hidden outdoor gems. The big river and cold water flowing from Lake Lanier creates the perfect environment for trout fishing, paddling, and riverside exploration just minutes from Atlanta. Especially in the heat of the summer. It’s a rare place where adventure, wildlife, and wilderness come together right outside the city. In this blog, I share insight about the tailwater and what makes it such a great outdoor adventure destination.

What Makes the Chattahoochee Tailwater Special?

The stretch of the Chattahoochee River below Buford Dam creates one of the most unique tailwater fisheries and recreation areas in the Southeast. Cold, clear water released from Lake Lanier transforms the river into a thriving habitat for trout, wildlife, and year-round outdoor recreation. This blog explores what makes the Chattahoochee River Tailwater so special—from its exceptional fishing and paddling opportunities to the conservation efforts that protect this remarkable stretch of river just north of Atlanta.

Nick Adams guided my group of 6 on a Chattahoochee River Day Trip back in 2009, and again in 2022 with a Georgia Kayak Fishing event. Good times were had by all! Nick is an excellent guide and very knowledgeable about the Hooch.

Thanks Nick! We’ll be back!
